Commercial Fridges

As we all know refrigeration appliances are all too common in the home, it also has an important use in business. Commercial fridges serve exactly the same purpose as they do in the home which is the cool storage of food and drink. Food outlets are one type of enterprise that relies heavily on refrigeration and commercial refrigerators are a vital piece of equipment. In addition, for some forms of businesses, there is the need to cool store non food items such as medications and chemicals.

Some commercial fridges are very similar to ones found in the home except they are considerably bigger in size. While a refrigerator in the home may typically only need to serve 2 adults and 2 children, various commercial businesses serve hundreds of people and the storage capacity required is significantly more then for the home.

Businesses and trades such as as restaurants, bars, grocery stores / supermarkets, newsagents / convenience stores and off licences are the typical shops in the high street that have a need for commercial fridge products. Additionally, unlike domestic fridges, with commercial fridges, there are all manner of shapes available to suit the specific need of the business.

For enterprises such as supermarkets, grocery stores and off licences there is a heavily reliance on a type of commercial fridges known as the display fridge. The striking thing about display fridges is that it has doors made from glass. This is to make it easy for customers to view the contents without the need to open the refrigerator. Additionally by having the products on display through a glass door, it is a means to advertise the products available at the store.

Some models of display refrigerators are upright fridges where the person can view the contents while standing. Others display fridges are effectively chest fridges where the person would look down into the refrigerator to view the stock. Generally supermarkets and grocery stores would utilise the upright and chest type of display fridges. In contrast, off licences and newsagents normally only have a need for upright fridges. An example of the upright fridge is the Coca Cola Fridge.

In environments such as grocery stores, supermarkets, newsagents and off licences, the appearance of the commercial fridges is potentially important. A clean and modern looking fridge give a more positive and uplifting impression of the establishment. Such considerations are especially important for upmarket enterprises where “modern”, “new” and “contemporary” are important part of the image reflected by the business.

There is also the need for commercial fridges in business settings where the customer does not have direct contact with the products while it is stored within the fridge. For example in catering establishments such as restaurants and fast food stores, food and drink is cool stored in the background within the catering confines.

The items of food and drink are taken out of the commercial fridges for preparation and used to make the required food. For such environments, the appearance of the commercial fridges is not important. What is important however is a commercial fridge that functions well without breaking down or providing any operational issues. Important consideration as to the size of the commercial fridges and space considerations need to be examined too. Commercial fridges have to be purchased that fill the available space without taking room that is required for other appliances and equipment. At the same time, the Commercial fridges within the catering area have to provide adequate space to meet the cooling needs.

Bars and pubs also have an extensive need to utilise commercial fridges in order to store drinks. For a further guide on the extensive list of commercial fridges for such settings check out the guide on drinks fridge.

A final category of commercial fridges are ones used in laboratories and scientific settings. In such environments certain chemicals have the need for storage below room temperature and at cold temperatures. Certain elements and chemicals need to be stored at unique temperatures and there are fridges available to suit. In addition, some forms of medications require storage in cold temperatures . Therefore hospitals and pharmacies use fridges for cold storage of medications and specific fridges for use in these environments are available.

What should be noted about a commercial fridge as a general rule of thumb is that they are expensive to purchase. This is in direct contrast to the domestic household fridge where many of the models are available at a modest cost. Cheap commercial refrigerators are however available in the form of second hand models that in terms of cost are lower then brand new models. Cheap commercial fridges are well worth a consideration especially if the business has a budget to meet when it comes to appliances and expenses.
